Message from our Board Chair

Dear Friends,

It scarcely seems possible that another year has gone by, but here we find ourselves at the end of 2022. I hope the last 12 months have been healthy and happy ones for you and yours.

This has been another incredibly busy year for all of us at Bay Cove, and a year of momentous change for the agency. In June, we said farewell to Bill Sprague, who retired as President and CEO after 30 years of stalwart service to Bay Cove. A few months later, Nancy Mahan—our Senior Vice President for Services and a 43-year veteran at Bay Cove—also embarked upon her well-deserved retirement.

As we said goodbye to Bill and Nancy, we welcomed Dr. Louis Josephson, who became just the fourth CEO in Bay Cove’s history. Louis came to us from The Brattleboro Retreat, Vermont’s largest regional free-standing psychiatric health system, and brings with him more than three decades of professional experience leading mental health and human services organizations. Bay Cove’s Board of Directors and Executive Leadership team were impressed by Louis’ leadership, management, and clinical background, and excited by his deep commitment to both the mission of Bay Cove, and to placing the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion at the center of everything our organization does.

With the changes in leadership within the agency, our programs’ full return to in-person services after two years of COVID protocols, and the opening of new programs like our Community Behavioral Health Center (coming to Cape Cod in 2023), Bay Cove is in a period of transition and change. But one thing that has not changed—and will never change—is our commitment to the vital, everyday work of partnering with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential.

I’m proud to be a part of that work—the compassionate and impactful work that our amazing Bay Cove staff does so tirelessly each day, the inspiring and difficult work done by individuals we serve to change their lives for the better, and the work that you’ve generously supported over the years.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Bay Cove!

Ruth Fishbein
Chair, Board of Directors
