Honoring Innovation and Community Leadership: Former Mayor Joe Curtatone Accepts CASPAR Award
A Force for Change
In the bustling city of Somerville, a beacon of hope and resilience continues to shine bright, thanks to the investment and leadership of former Mayor Joe Curtatone.
Before stepping into the role of NECEC President, Joseph A. Curtatone forged a reputation for being one of the most innovative mayors in the United States as the nine-term Mayor of Somerville, MA. Joe Curtatone’s unwavering commitment to the community's well-being has left an indelible mark, especially in his efforts with CASPAR (Cambridge and Somerville Program for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation).
Today, we're honored to announce that Joe Curtatone, former Mayor of Somerville and current Northeast Clean Energy Council President, has agreed to be a special honoree at the CASPAR’s Strengthening our Community event!
Joe's journey with CASPAR spans decades and is a testament to his compassion, empathy, and tireless advocacy for those in need. Through innovative programs and partnerships, Joe has spearheaded efforts to expand access to treatment, recovery support services, and housing resources for the folks CASPAR serves. His collaborative approach has brought together government agencies, community organizations, and residents to address the root causes of addiction and homelessness while promoting equity, social justice, and clean energy initiatives. His dedication to addiction and homelessness services, homelessness prevention, and community building aligns perfectly with CASPAR's mission.
CASPAR and Curtatone Go Way Back
Some may remember that in April 2018, CASPAR’s New Day residential treatment program received a generous donation influenced by then-Mayor Curtatone. This donation allowed CASPAR to contribute to the Somerville community in an entirely new way: by reducing its carbon footprint with solar panels! Joe was a tireless advocate for homeless Veterans and joined Mayors from around the country to end Veteran’s homelessness. He also secured money for CASPAR from a 2.2 million dollar grant under the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing (HPRP) Program.
